Solutions for the flower industry
By using the OptiFlower method (vacuum impregnation (VI) and pulse electric field (PEF)) the shelf life of flowers can be increased. Pelargonium zonale is a good example of this.
Total production of pelargonium in Europe is around 500 million/year. Estimates shows that 30% of the value is atually wasted. After the harvest of cuttings (unrooted), they have 72-96 hours shelf life before placed in soil. From unrooted cutting to rooted cutting, the waste is between 5-10 %.
Our method (vacuum impregnation (VI) and pulse electric field (PEF)) OptiFlower can extend the shelf life of Pelargonium zonale cuttings from 4 days to 11 days.
